Cup Lens | Don't Pour Liquid in THAT!

Just yesterday I received a very sweet and thoughtful gift from my cousin (one of many!).

She told me about this "cup lens" when I saw her over the holidays (I really don't think secret-keeping runs in my genes!) and ever since then I've been excitedly waiting for it's arrival. And so, of course, when it finally came I just had to tell everyone about it!

Upon opening my cup lens, my first exclamation was "Oh! It looks so authentic!" - complete with lens packaging and everything! They really did pay very close attention to detail... which further validates my fears of accidentally pouring a steaming hot drink "into" a REAL lens, mistaking it for my cup! That'd be a painfully expensive mistake.

So, while I don't own the exact lens this cup is modeled after (Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM - such a big name for such a little thing!) I decided to draw up a comparison to my closest equivalent - the ever faithful Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM - which is currently being offered with a $120 instant rebate... so that just adds to its awesomeness.

Check out the scarily realistic resemblance! (See if you can tell the difference!) For about 20x less weight and 60x less Benjamins you can look like a seasoned pro... and who doesn't want that?

Side note: Not sure where this one is from, but if you just google "cup lens" you'll have a mountain of different style to choose from!

Now as for practicality, I can't speak on that just yet. I haven't actually tested it out. But at first glance - it's super fun! It's not a travel mug (not this one anyway), but it does come complete with a lens cap to keep your liquid goodness cozy inside.

What I can say for sure: I'm gonna have so much fun with this! That is, until I accidentally mistake my real lens for a cup ;)
