Battery Gardens NYC Wedding Photographer | Julia + Scott

For Julia & Scott, celebrating their love was all about effortlessly blending casual-meets-classy with heirloom details, nautical elements, and the city they call home. Weaving in hints of  Jewish tradition and breathtaking Manhattan views, blue skies and breezy early summer temps rounded out their picturesque wedding day.

Highlighting the very place they met, got engaged and would now say "I do", nods to New York City were scattered throughout... from an NYC-themed invitation suite featuring a vintage MTA map & custom wax seal to a first look 58 stories up set to a 360° urban panorama. Portraits took us on a whirlwind adventure throughout lower Manhattan en route to Battery Gardens as we passed the iconic World Trade Center, idyllic Oasis Park, and antiquated 4/5 Train Station entrance at Bowling Green. Rounding out the day, we stole away for a few moments just before sunset for a glimpse of the city's most eminent lady, The Statue of Liberty.

Integrating their venue's proximity to the water, nautical elements made a cameo in both their colour palette and unexpected details. Opting for shades of blue and white, hints of azure could be found in Scott's attire, the sapphires in Julia's right-hand ring, and even the inner sole of her delicate flats (a girl after my own heart!). Flowers played along with touches of indigo in tweedia and delphinium while a dramatic cascade of hydrangeas climbed up the trunk and across two branches of their ceremony tree with matching flora found circling the cake and hosting guest's escort cards. Scott sported sailor's monkey fist knot cufflinks and candles floated throughout the decor while a sailboat and harbour views with boats passing by served as the perfect maritime backdrop to their exchanging of vows. And perhaps my favourite surprise: a brief stop at the nearby Seaglass Carousel for a quick spin and lots of laughter surrounded by larger-than-life fish.

Amidst it all, the importance of loved ones became quickly evident with the inclusion of both family tradition and keepsakes. Hints of Jewish custom shone through in the ceremonial breaking of the glass and time-honored dancing of the hora. Julia donned an antique bracelet watch on loan from Scott's cousin who inherited it from their grandmother while the previously mentioned right-hand ring was custom made using sapphires, her "something blue", collected from a ring passed down by the bride's grandmother.

But of course, in a sea full of details and joy surrounding them in their family and friends, it was the tender, sweet moments between Julia & Scott themselves that served as a reminder of what the day was truly all about: stolen glances, knowing smiles, tears elicited by handwritten notes, a fleeting exchange of playfully sticking out tongues, and assistance with the countless micro-adjustments of Scott's hand-tied bow tie... the makings of a love that transcends the deepest blue.
